Immunohistochemistry-Optimized Antibodies from GeneTex

GeneTex is performing extensive normal and cancer tissue testing to distinguish a series of monoclonal antibodies (designated “HistoMAXTM”) that are optimized for immunohistochemistry on human samples.

lmmunohistochemistry (IHC) is an indispensable application routinely employed in academic and clinical research as well as in patient care. In addition to the quality of tissue section preparation, the pivotal component determining the reliability of IHC data is the suitability of the antibody used. Many antibody vendors provide limited empirical information illustrating how their antibodies perform in IHC, often showing very few images demonstrating antibody staining in tissues acting as positive or negative controls. This leaves researchers with an incomplete picture of how the antibody behaves across different tissue types. Since conducting thorough in-house validation is often not feasible due to time or resource limitations, uncertainty as to the reliability of the antibody can persist in the minds of researchers. Confidence in the veracity of data generated from IHC studies that use undercharacterized antibodies may therefore suffer, potentially affecting the conclusions that researchers hope to draw from their work. These concerns are magnified when analyses are being conducted on precious tissue samples from patients.

In an effort to provide scientists with IHC-validated antibodies that instill trust, GeneTex is proud to introduce its HistoMAXTM product line. This reagent catalog consists of monoclonal antibodies (more than two-thirds of which are recombinant) that have been specifically vetted for IHC in human tissue samples. All were extensively evaluated using formalin-fixed human normal tissues (upwards of 70 different sections) and cancer tissue arrays to guarantee specificity and best-in-class performance. Only those antibodies that satisfy these stringent functional criteria for IHC receive the HistoMAXTM designation.

The HistoMAXTM portfolio offers several prominent advantages:

  • At this point, only 170 out of 6,500 evaluated antibodies have been selected for the HistoMAXTM portfolio. However, new products will be added on a continuous basis as worthy candidates are identified.
  • All HistoMAXTM antibodies are monoclonal with consistent performance and stable production.
  • All staining data of human normal tissue and cancer tissue array sections are viewable on the respective antibody datasheets at the GeneTex website.
  • Manual and/or autostainer (Agilent-Dako; Bond RX-Leica; Roche-Ventana) procedural information with optimized conditions is provided when available.
